Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

What’s on the other side of your comfort zone? Magic, that's what!

So today is the spring equinox & a new moon in march of 2023. If you reading this at another time, don’t stop here because this message is a powerful message at any time.

I just think right now it's supercharged so it would be a shame not to take advantage of that.

We all know that when we step out of our comfort zone there is always magic on the other side. Even when it doesn't turn out the way we want, it always helps us grow.

Some of us also know that when we look at what we fear doing, it's almost always the one thing we need to do.

Except for skydiving, that's a hard no for me. All I visualize with that is me vomiting and passing out mid-air which it not growth.

Being in our comfort zone can be good sometimes. In times to celebrate and relish in our successes.

But don’t stay there too long. Only because we can't really grow there and it's human nature to need to grow.

Comfort may feel safe but it's mostly just familiar which your brain categorizes as safe and alive. It's your brain's job to keep you alive so it will want to keep you in familiar even if it's not really good for you.

As an example, a bad relationship is familiar and safe. But you’re not good. Or great for that matter.

I don’t know about you but I want to experience amazing in my life and to do that I know that I have to be uncomfortable a lot of the time.

One thing I do to make this more enjoyable is to categorize uncomfortable as exciting. It kinda is, at least what might be on the other side of it.

So how can we start to stretch ourselves into this discomfort….wait a minute, let’s rename it. How can we stretch ourselves into the Amazingzone? Not sold on that yet but it’s better than the discomfort zone…right?

First, Know what it is you want. Here are a few things to keep in mind when doing this.

  • It's what you want. Not what is expected by society, by your partner, your parents, your kids, and your friends. What do you want?
  • Now expand, think bigger, crazy bigger, like if you told someone they would laugh. Then go even bigger. No, come on now, bigger! Go until you can’t go further. That's it, that's what you want. Wait, now what if you had 6 months to live, now what would it be? Thats it!
  • Don’t give me any of that, that's unreasonable shit. We get one life, live it, go big, or why even try? Make it interesting at the very least.
  • Don’t care about the naysayers. Don’t tell those dream killers. Those reasonable unfun people.
  • Find a crazy counterpart who will be your support system, your encourager, your person that lifts you up.

Now that you know what you want, and it's huge, come up with some daily stretches you think would brain you closer to that experience.

I want to be clear, none of us know the how. Not even the most successful people in the world. We just have to know how to start. The first step, and then keep moving and adding new steps.

How do I know no one knows the how?

Think of one of the most successful things you ever did. Now think about how you got there. Was it as planned, or did you take steps and experience things differently than you could have ever expected? Most of the time it's crazy how we get to success, so don’t try to control it. It doesn’t work.

Next, Ask yourself a few questions when you think about the daily steps/stretches that you could possibly take.

  • What do I need to do differently to reach this goal? After all, if we want a different result we have to have different beliefs and behaviors.
  • What do I need to leave behind? What doesn’t serve me? This could be some negative self-talk, a person or situation, or a belief.
  • Always, how can I think bigger?
  • Why might I not want this for myself? Maybe you're afraid when you have success you’ll lose friends, or maybe you’ll lose a parent's or family member's approval. Whatever it is, get it out and handle it. Come up with all the good outcomes. For everyone.

So once again, happy spring, this week’s self-care challenge is to step out of your comfort zone, to stretch yourself daily, this way you can live fully.
