Following Joy: How To Add Self Care into Your Daily Life w/ Ease

As you might have seen I just added a new series on the Soul Aligned Self Care Podcast

that will be released every Monday called, Your Weekly Self Care Practice (Listen Here).

Every week I’m going to be giving you a quick and easy self care practice that you can use right away to help improve your week!

Some of the benefits of practicing self-care daily are:

  • Reduced Stress: Regular self-care activities help to alleviate stress by providing moments of relaxation and rejuvenation, allowing you to better cope with life's challenges.
  • Improved Physical Health: Self-care practices such as exercise, healthy eating, and adequate sleep contribute to better physical health, boosting immunity and energy levels.
  • Enhanced Mental Well-being: Engaging in self-care activities promotes mental clarity, emotional stability, and resilience, leading to improved overall mental health and well-being.
  • Increased Productivity: Taking time for self-care helps to recharge your mind and body, leading to increased focus, creativity, and productivity in daily tasks and responsibilities.
  • Better Relationships: When you prioritize self-care, you're better equipped to show up fully for others in your life. By meeting your own needs, you can cultivate healthier and more fulfilling relationships with loved ones.

Pretty worth it right?

A lot of people just feel like they don’t have the time or the resources to do this.

Today I want to share with you a little trick that I use to find the joy in our lives and a start adding it back in in small steps. So, you don’t need a lot of time.

What this does it gets the ball rolling and then helps you gain momentum. The more you practice the more you’ll want to practice self care and then you will create time.

You will begin to feel the benefits and you’ll want more.

Also, when you do it this way, in small steps, you realize it doesn’t have to take a lot of time out of your day to care for yourself. These small practices will add up to make a big difference.

This will be another journaling practice so grab a pen and paper and let’s get started.

Draw a line down the center of the page.

I want you to start to think of small things that fuel your life. Things that add joy, energy, peace, rest, and love.

For me this can look like a walk or run outside, a cup of tea or coffee, cuddles with my dogs, working in y garden, creating something (Art), putting music on, dancing to my favorite song, a quick meditation, some breathwork, a yoga stretch, talking to a friend, talking to my kids. You get the idea.

List these on the left side of your paper.

These things are quick, easy, and free! Easy to add one, or a few into your day.

Next, I want you to make a list of all the things that deplete your energy, add stress and anxiety, and just suck the life out of you.

For me this can look like, watching the news, social media (Sometimes), certain people, a task that isn’t aligned with me, spending too much time on emails.

Write these on the right side of the paper.

Now, the key is to start to add more of the good into your life and do less of the draining stuff.

This is not an all or nothing kind of a list. If you have a family member you love but they completely drain your energy, you don’t have to remove them. That is a bit drastic.

You could spend less time with them or when they start to do the behavior that drains you change the subject, if possible.

As an example:

  • Instead of starting your day with the news which causes a lot of stress for everyone, turn that off and put some good music on.
  • Instead of scrolling on social media, go for a quick walk outside and get some fresh air. Even if it’s just for 5 minutes.
  • Instead of doing a task in my business that I hate. If possible, hire someone to do the task and spend that time helping more people, which I love.

Add in the good, take away the crap.

Most of the things I put on my list can be done in 10 minutes or less.

So, can you at the very least do something to add joy into your life for 5 to 10 minutes a day?

Can you do this for at least one day this week?

Also, I’m not sure if you noticed but when you take away something draining that you do you create a space for something to add joy. You create the time you need.

Now if you have to go on social media and your email (Like me), set a timer for 5-10 minutes. Then stop and do something better. Life is too short to hang out on social media and inside of your inbox.

We need to live our lives more in a state of joy and less in stress.

This is how to create some space for yourself to do the self care practices I’ll be talking about every Monday on the SASC Podcast, HERE.

Also, in the Soul Aligned Self Care Insiders Community, HERE.

These are two places you can join me to get some great ideas for your easy daily self care.

So, I want you to join me this week in doing more things to follow the joy in your life!

You can listen to the SASC Podcast Episode HERE on this topic once it is released.
