Soul Aligned Life, Creating Something New in the Place of What Isn't Working

Piggybacking Off of Last Week's Topic: Living a Slower Life & What That Looks Like for You

(Read last week's Blog HERE.)

I want to share what the title of my blog (Soul Aligned Life) means and why it's so important to me.

Ever since I can remember, from when I was a little girl, I’m talking kindergarten, there was this theme in my life that caused stress or discomfort. The overall theme I needed to experience, and that was most important to me, was freedom.

It never made sense to me in school that we weren’t allowed to be free. Free to go to the bathroom when needed, free to speak our mind, free to ask questions we wanted to ask instead of the questions the teachers wanted to answer, or the only ones they would answer.

Starting at this point in my life, I started to become kind of a little rebel. I was going to do what I wanted, when I wanted. I did it quietly, though, I never wanted to cause too much friction for others.

For example, if my mother wanted me to wear something to school that day and I didn’t want to wear what she picked, I didn’t argue. I just picked something else, placed it outside my house, changed on my family’s patio, and walked myself to school. Yes, even when I was quite young, I walked myself to school. We all did. I was a block from my school, and on the way were my two best friends along with all their brothers and sisters, and we all walked together.

This theme of me wanting my freedom continued throughout my life. I just didn’t want to conform to what society wanted me to do, and at the same time, I didn’t want to cause too many waves.

I do believe this is why I ended up having my own business. And now, as I move into this period of my life where I could give a shit about making waves, because I finally ran out of fucks to give, I’m going to do what I want. And I don’t care if it’s weird or completely outside of what society deems as “normal.” I don’t want to be “normal.”

I’m just moving into what I want to do, what feels good, and what not only serves me but also serves the good of all.

It took me long enough. I suppose it’s better late than never.

I see very clearly now the pattern through my whole life, how we are programmed to conform to society’s expectations, and how these expectations are against our natural state, against human nature.

As I make my way toward what feels like the most natural state to be in, where I’m happy, excited, inspired, and challenged, where I’m spending all of my time doing things that are a hell yes, I notice that it’s all about cycles.

Cycles are everywhere in the natural world, right in front of our noses if we pay attention, if we slow down long enough to see.

A lot of people think it’s childish, irresponsible, and absolutely impossible to always be doing what you want, but this is where the problem is.

Think about who created these rules.

We have to go to work for 40+ hours a week, get married, have kids, who created these guidelines?

When we talk about these things, we call them “they.”

Well, who is “they”?

The government? Organized religion? Corporations? The patriarchy?

Not exactly level-headed, kind, ethical people, are “they”? As a woman, I can also say, “they” are not anyone who has our best interests in mind.

So, who does this benefit?

It benefits the people who hold all the strings, “they,” mostly old, white, straight, rich men.

I don’t know about you, but when you look at the state of things in the world and the state of most people, I would say this system is not working.

We need a reset, a redesign, big time.

The rules everyone is following do not benefit humans as a whole. They do not allow us to be a full expression of ourselves.

When we show up in total alignment with our true selves, our true nature, the whole world benefits.

This is why we are here. This is why we were born. To be the unique individual that we are. That unique expression.

Think of the world as a big puzzle. Each living being is a puzzle piece.

When we all embody who we were meant to be, everything fits and flows together. It makes sense.

When we don’t, the puzzle doesn’t fit together or make sense. It’s a mess. Pieces are missing and out of place. It’s hard to see what the puzzle is supposed to be, what it’s supposed to represent.

Our purpose in life is to be who we are meant to be, and to live in cooperation with everyone else. All the other puzzle pieces.

Right now, a majority of us are walking around like zombies, going through the motions, not enjoying most of what we do.

Of course, there are exceptions. But most people are overworked, tired, stressed, and don’t even have the capacity to break out of this trance we are all under.

How Do We Break Free?

One small step at a time
You DO NOT need to make big, scary changes.

Step 1: Calm and support the nervous system.

Reduce stress. Get present. Tune into yourself, your body, and how you feel. Start supporting yourself daily.

Think somatic exercises, meditation, breathwork.

Step 2: Tune into what feels like a “hell yes” in your body.

Pay attention to how you feel when you’re doing everything. Ask yourself:

  • Is this a hell yes?

  • If not, why am I doing it?

  • How can I do this differently, or not at all?

Then shift. One small thing at a time.

Sounds tedious, right?

Well, it might feel overwhelming when you discover that you’re doing nothing that’s a hell yes.

But as soon as you start making shifts, it feels so good. One little thing at a time.

Saying no to dinner with that friend who always makes you feel like shit? Hell yes
Getting up and leaving a date when it feels off? Hell yes
Saying no to that relative who constantly votes against your basic human rights? Hell yes
Saying yes to taking a walk in nature? Hell yes
Saying yes to that class you’ve been wanting to take but “never” have the time? Hell yes

These are the shifts.

The most important part is constantly checking into how things feel in your body.

Know what a hell yes feels like. Know what a hell no feels like. Then honor it, always.

With these little life shifts, slowly and surely your life starts to change. It starts to feel good.

This creates momentum. This creates flow.

The more you define what you want in your life, the more of what you want begins to flow in.

What you focus on expands. What you FOCUS on EXPANDS.

This Is How We Create Something New

This is how we create something new to take the place of something that is not working
This is how we find purpose. This is our purpose.

Another wonderful way to tune into the rhythms of life is by working with the moon.

This is what our ancestors did, right? It’s a great reminder of how we’re supposed to live.

  • Times for doing and creating (As the moon gets fuller – Full Moon)

  • Times to rest and go inward (When the moon is dark – New Moon)

That puts it simply, but it’s a powerful reminder that nothing and no one can be in “go mode” or “hustle mode” all the time. We will crash and burn.

Last week, I talked about the cycles of the seasons:

  • Winter – Rest

  • Spring – Rebirth

  • Summer – Harvest, enjoyment

  • Fall – Going inward

All cycles in the natural world work in this way.

What would make us any different?

Living More Intentionally With the Solstice

For this Spring Solstice, I made the intention to start living this way even more intentionally, more than I am now.

If you want to join me in living with the rhythms of nature and the moon, come over to the Soul Aligned Life Patreon. I share a New and Full Moon worksheet every month.

It’s a great way to start checking in with yourself and making those aligned shifts.

The New Moon is coming up on Wednesday.

So, right now, we’re in a place of going inward, a place of self-care, a time to listen to what our bodies need.

The New Moon on Wednesday is all about planning, creating, and calling in what you want to bring into your life this month.
