Choosing You - What Do You Really Want?

I’ve been chatting with you for a couple of weeks now talking about how you need to stop all the doing, doing, doing, and start to get centered and tuned into yourself, your true self, and asking the question:

Is this what I want to be doing?

Is it something I love?

Is it something I’m proud of?

Does it give me purpose?

If not, then it's time to make some changes.

Listen to the podcast version of this blog post HERE.

It’s about interrupting the robot like doing, what society expects of us, and start paying attention to our needs first. When you do this, all of society benefits because you’ll be putting your best self and your best work and creations into the world.

It’s time for you to start making small shifts toward the things you love.

Instead of spending 75% of your life serving a person/company/corporation who sometimes does not contribute to our community. It’s time to flip-flop that number to you spending this time on the things you love with the people you love, putting back into your community. Now that makes more sense.

By doing this for yourself, putting yourself first, and putting your happiness first, will make you a better person.

You have more energy, less stress, less anxiety, and better health, and in turn, this is the energy you will put back into the world and your community.

Right now there is a large number of people working hard, stressed out, living paycheck to paycheck, struggling, and not having much time to enjoy themselves, but what for?

Now, I know it sounds impossible to make this shift, especially if you’re a person who is stuck in this chaos.

But there is a way out by taking one small step at a time.

One small shift at a time. One small change at a time.

All of these done consistently over time will make big changes.

When you make shifts in the direction of your dreams, you stumble on other opportunities. Things you could never imagine.

Sometimes that shift could look like:

  • Trying a new hobby and then meeting new people that have the same interests. This in turn could land you a new job in that industry. But if you never make that small change, you’ll never shift in that direction.
  • It could look like volunteer work once a month with a dog shelter.
  • Submitting your artwork to a competition.
  • Starting a garden.
  • Taking a course to learn something new.
  • Learning a new language to a place you want to visit.

All of these things, once you choose to make a shift in your life to take a new direction, all lead to new opportunities, new friends, and sometimes new careers.

The one key factor in all of this though is that you have to know what you want. In detail too. Nothing vague.

Imagine you were going up to a food counter in a restaurant to order food. They asked you what you wanted and you weren't sure and you said, just give me something good. Would you get what you really want? I guess it’s possible but it could also be something the person behind the counter thought was good and that involved carrots and you hate carrots.

It’s better to know what you want so that when you place your order you get what you want.

So the big question is, what do you really want?

For this exercise I want you to journal out the answer.

Here we go, Let’s pretend you found a time machine and you could go 1 year into the future and see what your life was like. You went and it was amazing, you had everything you’ve ever dreamed of, it was so exciting.

Now, you’ve traveled back and you’re telling everyone in your life what it looked like, what you were doing, what you looked like, where you were living, who you spent time with, where you were traveling, the fun stuff you were doing and learning.

This is what I want you to journal out. Be honest, be adventurous, have fun with this, and write it as if it already happened.

After you’re done. Pick out what is different about this life a year into the future and your life now.

Then write out at least 20 small baby shifts you could make over the next couple of weeks that might shift you in the direction of this new life.

What’s next you ask? Well, you know. Start adding these shifts into your life on a REGULAR basis.

Remember, SMALL shifts, done CONSISTENTLY, over time, make BIG changes.

Consistency does matter.

Oh, and another thing. If it doesn’t work out, you “fail” so to speak. Just move on to the next thing. Don’t stop, keep going, always!

I want you to practice saying, oh well, NEXT. Every time you fail. Failures are just lessons or sometimes a redirection of life. We are supposed to learn and move forward, not dwell in it.

So what about you, what do you really want?

I would love for you to share it with me.

Send me a message and share to put it out into the world for creation!
