Get Unstuck & Create Momentum in Your Life?

We all feel this way at some point in our lives, as a matter of fact I believe we go through this in cycles when we are experiencing growth or need to experience growth. 

 

So, if you can describe yourself as the first person, just completely stuck and somewhat unhappy, then the first thing I would ask you is what do you want? Almost always the person says to me, I don’t know what I want. Then I would move on to how you want to feel. If life was perfect, what are the feelings you would be experiencing on a daily basis? Start with that. 

 

Most of the time when we are working towards a goal it’s not the actual goal or material thing we want, the big house, car, or whatever your wants are. It’s the feeling we think we will feel when we get it. So, working towards the feelings we will have when we get there is the way to go. 

We start with:

  • What do you want?
  • How do you want to feel?

Are you with me so far? As usual I’m going to have you do this as a journal prompt. Write it out. Maybe if you want a fancy car you want to feel successful, important. If you want a big house maybe you need more space and you want to feel comfort and safety. 

 

We are all stuck right now in this scenario so what’s next? You might be feeling, I don’t know how to reach that goal. How do I move forward? 

 

Sometimes when we are stuck in a rut there are a couple of things going on.

We might be scared. The place where we want to go is unknown and where you are right now sucks but it’s familiar and safe so you keep doing the same things with the same results and not going anywhere. Believe it or not we do this on purpose to protect ourselves and in a very crazy world it’s hard to step out of any comfort zone. So we sabotage ourselves to keep us safe and comfy. 

 

Sometimes we really just don’t know what to do. There are so many ways to handle this one. 

 

I’m going to share with you a fun practice to help you move forward that I use all the time and it always works…always!

 

Let’s get into it. 

 

You are going to decide what you want to experience whether it's a thing or a feeling. Actually I want you to focus on both. 

 

Now I want you to brainstorm as many micro-mini steps as you can come up with and write them down. The rule is they have to be really easy to do and not take too long or cost too much money. They need to be really easy. 

 

You need to come up with between 25 and 50 micromini steps. I know this is a lot but I mean it when I say easy and I’ll give you an example. 

 

Now, for all of you that are hating me right now because you already told me that you don’t know what to do, this is what I want you to do, I want you to pretend that you are the type of person who always knows what to do and then write down what you would do if you were that type of person. 

 

None of it has to be perfect, it just has to be a start

 

Now after you have compiled this list all you have to do is one thing every day. This is why the steps have to be easy. Then one of two things will happen. 

 

It might not turn out the way you want and then what you do is NOT say oh I failed; you say oh this was good feedback. How can I learn from this, move forward, or shift to make it work and then move on, keep going!

 

The second thing is, it works out, you move forward a little, then you have to celebrate. 

 

This is such an important step. Celebrate these little wins because it creates momentum, happiness, and confidence! DON”T SKIP THIS!

 

Then you just keep moving forward, celebrating, moving forward, and before you know it, you’re not stuck..you’re moving!
